May-June Madness

May and June of 2012 is going to be frightfully busy for me in terms of shows and new projects! I think at the end of the marathon, when somebody asks me for a story, I might hand them a book instead.

May

June

Sorry to be so cryptic about that last one, but I’m going to my first rehearsal tomorrow, so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. All I can say right now is that it’s a new type of storytelling project for me and I’ll be on a stage that I have always dreamed of performing on (one of many places). More on that later.

TaelStrum has Leveled Up!

TaelStrum has bitten the Web Bullet and decided to move to is own server, which means we’re not using the old documentia.ca/taelstrum server anymore. We’ve got our BigBoy Web Pants on!

So please update your bookmarks to WWW.TAELSTRUM.CA. This is where it’s all happening. Welcome back!

New Pictures and Events

Bidango Smith of DangerGirl Photography (based in Toronto, Ontario) took some awesome photos of us this past weekend, so we’ve added a few of our favorites in the Media section. Go have a look!

In the meantime, TaelStrum is getting primed and ready for action for the Montreal Fringe 2012 (look for Headless Goat Productions). We’re making a few appearances in various venues in April, May, and June, so keep an eye out for us. Some of our appearances include:

And just in case you were planning to do this anyways, the Montreal Mirror is holding it’s annual Best of Montreal survey. We consider it an honour and a close, personal favour if you were to vote for TaelStrum as Best Spoken Word Act. Will you support us?

TaelStrum Venue Fundraiser

TaelStrum is going to be in the Off-Fringe in June at the L’Ame-Art Gallery in Mile End. The Gallery has donated the space to us, but have asked for a donation. So we’re having a show to provide that donation!

The show is free, but we will pass a hat at the intermission to collection a suggested donation of $5 to $100 ($50 and $100 bills are accepted). 100% of these donations will go to the Ame-Art Gallery.

Lex & the Devil: Our Rockstar Moment

Last weekend, I was hosting a fundraiser where we had magicians, musicians, dancers, singers, and storytellers. Happily, my friend Scarlet recorded TaelStrum’s telling of Lex & the Devil.

My favorite moment occurs at 4:50 when we get our Rock Star experience where I realize the crowd is telling the story with me, so I go quiet and let them say it as a group. It was golden.

TaelStrum on CKUT!

Happy New Year to you all! It’s been a couple of months since we’ve had anything to report, but we hope that you’ve all been enjoying what 2012 has to offer so far!

Tune in on January 24th 2012 on CKUT between 4pm and 5pm as Shayne and I will be performing live on the radio during the “The Word I Heard” show hosted by Karen Robins and Tim Beeler. We hope you’ll have a listen!

Update: The show has been posted! You can stream or download the podcast from the CKUT Archives. Go to January 24th 2012 — Hour 2 and have a listen! Our part of the interview starts at 21:15.

Suggested Donation $10-$15*
*Though any amount, less or more, is greatly appreciated!

Storyteller David Hickey and musician Shayne Gryn of TaelStrum (http://www.taelstrum.ca), have very generously donated their time and incredible talents toward raising funds and awareness for Music Theatre Montreal. They will be performing an evening of storytelling and music, with proceeds benefiting Music Theatre Montreal’s production and educational programmes. In addition to masterful storytelling, cast members from MTM’s recent production of INTO THE WOODS, will be performing selected numbers from the show.

David Hickey delights in telling stories from all over the world, but has a particular fondness for quirky, underdog stories. He has an animated, energetic telling style that appeals to both children and adults…although this event being held at a pub, invites all children-at-heart over the age of majority!

Music Theatre Montreal is a newly formed not-for-profit theatre company, which provides educational opportunities to the Montreal community, and to aspiring professionals in the domains of theatre production and performance. It is the first group of its kind in the Greater Montreal region, acting as a stepping-stone organization between student and professional. They recently completed their inaugural production of INTO THE WOODS, to critical acclaim. For more information about MTM, please visit www.musictheatremontreal.com

Invite your friends and join us for an evening of fun, incredible talent, all in support of a worthy cause!
